Dental Emergency Care Can Save Your Smile
Dental emergencies are incredibly common, with 14% of people experiencing one in their lifetime. Whether you’ve lost a filling or crown, are having oral pain, or have sustained a mouth injury, it's important to seek out professional dental care as soon as possible in order to avoid further damage and preserve your smile.
What are the benefits of emergency dental care and what happens during an emergency appointment?
Caring for dental emergencies promptly can help reduce pain and save your smile. When you visit our caring team for your dental emergency, we will be able to assess your situation and provide the necessary treatment required. In some cases, it will involve a quick restorative procedure. In others, if the damage is more significant, more extensive treatment may be required.
If you’ve experienced a dental emergency, after you call us to arrange a visit, it's important to carefully follow our recommendations for protecting your tooth and/or mouth. Until you see us, you can:
Carefully rinse your mouth with warm water when you’re experiencing tooth pain. Gently floss and remove any food debris that may be contributing to your pain.
If you’ve lost a tooth or pieces of a tooth, carefully gather all pieces and bring them to our office. Always hold a tooth by its crown and rinse with water before placing it in a cup of milk. Apply a cold compress on your face to reduce swelling.
A badly bitten lip or tongue should have pressure from a cloth applied, as well as a cold compress to reduce swelling.
No matter what type of dental emergency you're experiencing, time is of the essence. The sooner you call us to seek care, the more likely it is that your outcome will be positive.
If you’ve sustained an injury to your mouth or are experiencing dental pain, call us right away! We’re here to help.
